HellermannTyton INVESTS IN DEMAG ELECTRIC HYBRID TECHNOLOGY

Globally HellermannTyton is one of the world’s leading manufacturers and distributors of cable accessories, interconnection components, hand tools and test instruments for use in the electronic, telecommunications, aerospace, electrical and automotive industries. They have representation in 34 countries worldwide, with manufacturing operations in 9 of these.

The South African company was started in 1966 and in 1976 installed their first injection moulding machine for the production of nylon cable ties. This was the beginning of an era for the company which today boasts eleven 350 and 420 ton injection moulding machines, ten of which are modern DEMAG ERGOTECH’s, six extrusion lines and 8 printing lines for the production of high quality plastic cable accessories. The company is certified to the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System, ISO14001 Environmental Management System and the ISO/TS16949 Automotive Quality Management System, an achievement which has been ably supported by the reliable, technically advanced and environmentally friendly DEMAGS.

The latest addition to their machine fleet is a DEMAG ELEXIS S 420 Hybrid Plastic Injection Moulding Machine.

With a dry cycle time of only 1.7 seconds, injection speed of 1970cm³ / second and parallel plasticising, carriage, mould and ejector movements, cycle times can be reduced by 35% while utilising 45% less power than conventional injection moulding machines. This is achieved using the optimum drive system for each machine axis: accumulator for injection, electric screw drive for plasticizing, electric screw drive coupled with fixed displacement pump for mould movements and a small central pump for carriage, ejector and cores.

“The ELEXIS S is setting the benchmark for high speed, high performance and energy efficient Injection Moulding Machines. Very few plastic injection moulding machines can offer our speed and accuracy at our reduced energy requirements, and in these highly competitive markets it is all about achieving maximum throughput at the minimum running costs” says Jaques Kleynhans of DemaPlasTech Machinery.
